Reflections

The soccer world cup was hosted in South Africa exactly a year ago.  It was an exciting time for all of us in the country, and people supported the various teams by wearing soccer shirts to work each Friday.

I heard in a news report this morning that South Africa has far too many hotels after the world cup, and that occupancy levels are low.  Despite this one 'negative' report, I think that there are so many benefits that we now enjoy as a result of hosting the world cup - we have several beautiful stadiums, the roads and road signage across SA are so much better than they used to be, there is a greater sense of one nation in a country which is so often divided by race, the country is much neater and we have several new gardens in places that used to previously be an eyesore.

This is a layout of photo's taken during the opening game between South Africa and Mexico.  I hosted a kick-off party at home for my lady friends.  Even though none of us understand anything about soccer, we had a great time and gave tons of advice to the players and referees (LOL)
