Autumn kitties

We've had a few gorgeous Autumn days in Johannesburg recently so when I've been home, I've spent a lot of time outdoors in the sunshine...reading, crocheting and enjoying my silly kitties.

My beloved Ruby stays close to me and only occasionally chases a lizard or two

Hooligan Malaika is now allowed to roam free on her own in the garden (with mom watching her like a hawk!) without her harness on.  She investigates everything and chases leaves and eats stuff (I don't know what); she loves being outdoors and has been good (so far!) about not going over the garden wall.  From being an underweight rescue kitty with a fresh amputation, she has filled out nicely and is really healthy and well.  Love you baby!

Turning 5

Little miss Katy turned 5 in April.  She is soooo cute and totally in to 'my little pony' and the colours pink and purple at the moment.  Lunch at Spur was her choice and easy for the adults.

Urban Angel made delicious vanilla cupcakes for Katy and I added the unicorns and sprinkles.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY Princess!!

the elderflower cocktails were for the adults - not the kids

Kids loooove sprinkles!

Chinese Checkers

As kids, we used to play Chinese Checkers every Friday night.  My step mother  passed the board game on to  me, a gorgeous heirloom from my grandparents.

I recently, arranged a games evening for friends and we had total blast playing Chinese Checkers.  The sweetest nicest ladies became total competitive hooligans who were determined to thrash the other players!  It was fabulous.

"no, my cat never climbs on the dining room table" said no kitty mom ever!!  We enjoyed a delicious 'bring and share' dinner before the games began

Sharing a meal

I used to regularly host lunches and dinners at my home for friends and they would do the same.  Then we all got busy and stopped doing it for several years.  I miss the joy of sharing a meal with friends, so I recently started this tradition again by hosting a games evening (I'll tell you more about it in another post).

Cathy invited us over for lunch on Easter Sunday after Church.  Some of us crocheted while she cooked.  We spoke about how as children, the big Sunday roast featured prominently in all our memories.  As single ladies, the Sunday roast is no longer relevant or suitable.  So Cathy made a great big lamb roast for us...a bit of a blast from the past
