Week in the Life

I did a Week in the Life challenge in Autumn 2010, documenting a week of everyday life in stories and photos.  I wanted to do the same this year in my 'new' home, and because a lot has changed during the last 4 years.  You've already seem some of the photos that I'll be using - my visit to Greyton and the scrapbooking weekend.  Here are a few more photos which I will be including - my business trip to Cape Town, working in Johannesburg, my home and Ruby.

I have a lot more photos of ordinary stuff like doing the washing, things I bought during the week, news stories, meals that I ate, etc. which I like to include; it's fun to look back on a few years' later.  I've printed out the photos and gathered all the bits and pieces that I want to record; now I just need to get moving.  If you want more information on this project, take a look at Ali Edwards' site (Week In The Life 2014 is happening from October 27th though November 2nd); the dates didn't work for me so I chose my own dates.

Scrap Addicts

The Scrap Addicts recently spent a weekend scrapbooking at my home, one of our regular quarterly gatherings.  Being part of a regular scrapbooking group really keeps us motivated to scrap more, we share lots of ideas, and we encourage each other in our love of memory keeping.  Every quarter, we make and share scrap kits, so we also get a lot done in a short space of time.  And we laugh.  A lot

Linda's beautiful layout

Leonie and I used the same range of paper and we both designed summer pages - it was not pre-planned!   So funny...

Linda 'accused' me of not putting all the  necessary embellishments into a kit which I designed a while ago.  After looking very outraged and indignant for a while, she found the 'missing' embellishments under the piles of paper at her work space.  I insisted on a written apology, hehehe

Leonie made breakfast for us on Sunday morning - we thought that we were in a hotel!  She also brought her juicer along and demonstrated her new passion for juicing; I loved the apple juice.  The plain carrot juice, not so much

Scrap Cat.  Princess Ruby suffers from FOMO - fear of missing out.  So she's always near me (and because she adores her mommy)

Linda, Lynn, Leonie and I (Lynette didn't sleep over) at the close of another awesome scrapbooking weekend.  Tired and happy ladies.

a little adventure to Greyton

I tagged a 2-day visit to see my friend Wendy onto the front end of my usual business trip to Cape Town in September.  Wendy was my neighbor in Johannesburg before retiring down to the Cape a year ago.

Greyton is a small town in the Western Cape, about 90 minutes from Cape Town.  It is gorgeous and tranquil, in a valley surrounded by mountains.  It's an easy drive straight down the N2 highway from the Cape Town airport, over Sir Lowry's pass and left just after Dassiesfontein.

I met Wendy and her daughter Linda (and her furry daughter Bella!) at Dassiesfontein for lunch, and then spent 2 glorious days pottering around in Greyton.  Wishing I could live in such a beautiful town instead of in the city.  Sigh...

and down the other side

the shop at Dassiesfontein is a warren of many little rooms,
with lots of junk but also some good stuff

lunch at Dassiesfontein -they serve thick slices of delicious farm bread with real butter with everything; they don't make cappachinos, only 'moer koffie' in an enamel pot

Wendy's gorgeous home in a retirement village in Greyton; it is surprisingly spacious inside - 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a study, a huge open-plan living area with a dining room and kitchen, and 2 patios

I don't really like dogs (in case you missed it, I'm a cat person),
but miss Bella is very cute and well behaved

this ball of wool and knitting needles was priced at ZAR15 000
in the art gallery (I kid you not!)

This is a tortured willow tree - ever heard of it?  Me neither.  It's beautiful

Linda made a delicious vegetable lasagna for Sunday lunch,
which we ate on the back patio before I headed back to Cape Town

what a lovely little adventure; I really hope to come back for a longer stay

Heritage day

I know...I've been missing from blog land for a while.  Work is crazy busy and I don't want blogging to be just another thing on my endless 'to do' list.

24 September was Heritage Day in South Africa, a delicious 'middle of the week' holiday.  I spent the day with my sister Caron and her family.  Doing important stuff like crocheting on the patio, drinking tea, talking to my teenage niece and nephew about dating, hair and life goals.  It was good.

Caron made beautiful bed socks for me
