Birds and breakfast

I don't have the best camera for photographing birds, but I got some good photos anyway on my recent walk at the Botanical Gardens.

This is the Cape Bulbul.  In Afrikaans, it's known as 'bottergat' (butter bum) and this photo shows the bright yellow bum beautifully.

My new favourite breakfast at the botanical gardens - French toast with mince, cheese and red chillies - delish!

In total, I walked about 10 000 steps on Saturday; my foot was tired and a bit sensitive in the afternoon and on Sunday, but fine again on Monday.  I'm am so glad that I had foot surgery to remove the Morton's Neuroma, and very blessed to find a great surgeon (Professor Nick Saragas at Linksfield Clinic).  Thank you Lord!

Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

It's a year since my foot surgery so I'm back in my ugly walking shoes and hitting the road.  On Saturday, I went for a walk at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens near Johannesburg, it was such a gorgeous day.  I'm a bit late to see the succulents at their best, but they were still beautiful.

I'll share photos of the birds in my next post

Scrapbooking layouts

Here are a few more of my Alaska scrapbooking pages.  I've loved scrapbooking my bucket list trip

All the completed Alaska pages are now in albums; I just have a few more front and back pages to finish off, and then I can get back to scrapbooking family photos.

Scrapbooking layouts

I'm almost done with my Alaska album.  The Inside Passage cruise part of the trip is in the album which I bought in Alaska and lugged back home to Africa, and the land travel part of our trip is in another Making Memories album.  Here are some of my recent scrapbooking layouts

Paint nite

I've spoken before about how I want to give the gift of time and experiences rather than gifts to some of my friends when they celebrate birthdays; I do it occasionally and not all the time, but definitely want to do more of it.  I recently gave my friend Cathy the gift of a Paint Nite painting class at Montecasino.

The evolution of my painting...

It was a lovely experience and great time spent together, but I won't rush back to do it again anytime soon.  I think it's expensive for what you get (R500 for the painting only, no refreshments), the music was waaaay too loud for me (yep, I'm getting old), and I didn't like that the ladies smoked in the room during the breaks.  And my painting...maybe I'll hang it in the garage to chase the mice away!
