Playing with pens

I am slowly working through Joanne Sharpe's book "the art of whimsical lettering".  Sometimes my perfectionism stops me from playing and making art, which is really daft.  I get frustrated that I always seem to write skew.  Sometimes I really don't like my handwriting.  Sometimes I do.  Her book encourages you to learn to love your own handwriting...maybe one day I will.

Here are some of my doodles and pen play...

Good Things

I started making "Good Things" gratitude pages in 2013 - a fun combination of words and doodles. Here are some of my Good Things doodle pages...

Whimsical Lettering

I bought Joanne Sharpe's book "The art of whimsical lettering" - one of the best books on learning to doodle and play with lettering.  Most books spend too much time explaining what supplies are needed.  Joanne jumps right in, urges you to use the supplies that you already have, and gives you 25 mini projects to practice.  And she encourages us to make mistakes - yeh!

Art Journalling

I have been doodling and art journalling using the theme "good things".  These pages are a form of gratitude journalling.  I find that I'm more inclined to journal this way using Sharpie pens and colour, rather than just using a standard gratitude journal.

A little art project

During my blog sabbatical, I researched (and tried) a few other blog options.  They were either very expensive, or very difficult to use.  I'm hoping my uploading issues with blogger are now over...so holding thumbs that it's business as usual from now on.  I really missed blogging. I find that I live more consciously when I blog - I notice things around me, I pay attention to the little things, and I think more about the stories unfolding around me as I go through my day.

Here is a little art project that I've been working on for the upcoming HeartMap Retreat that I'm hosting on 11 May...

Email me if you'd like to join us for the day.  The HeartMap Retreat is being held at a beautiful location in the Honeydew area in Johannesburg, the cost is R700 per person for the day including snacks, a light lunch, and 2 take-home art projects.  It's going to be lots of awesome goodness!

Doodle notebook

I have registered for Stephanie Ackerman's A whole new Doodle online doodling course.  A requirement for the course is a lined notebook for practicising in.  Of course I could not just have a boring old black notebook...nooo!  I covered my book in scrap paper, strips of washi tape, added a stamp and letter stickers, and then covered the whole book in repositionable plastic.

This will be my playbook for a while...

Be the light

Remember that He died on the cross for you and for me.  And on the 3rd day, He rose from the dead.  He is coming back to fetch us.  Until then, let us choose to be the light in this dark place.

Happy Easter.  Blessings, love and light to you all

Word art

Years ago, I did a mini workshop with Stephanie Ackerman when she visited South Africa.  I spent last Sunday afternoon on the patio while my home was on show.  I doodled and played and made some word art.  And then I added some pretty scrapbooking paper to the opposite pages.  I like this.  Maybe I'll add some colour to the words.

Inspired by Stephanie.
